Onsite Learning at AELC

Environmental education programming is available for your school or group on-site at the AELC or at your location.  This can include hands-on interpretive experiences in the field or engaging classroom activities.  Programming can be customized by age or grade level, theme, concept or academic standard.  Click below for some examples of programming we have provided in the past.

Onsite Programs

Offsite and Remote Programming

Below are some examples of some lessons and activities that can be offered remotely. These programs are customizeable to your needs. Contact us so we can begin to develop your unique environmental education experience!

  • Bioblitz!  What is a Bioblitz?  Well, it can be a lot of things! Basically, students are asked to go outside and, using an app such as iNaturalist, survey an area for living things. I can come to your area and set up a Bioblitz project in a public space near your school. I can then help integrate the Bioblitz experiences and/or the data collected into a range of curricula or use them to meet many academic standards. What makes this program so appropriate is that it can easily be utilized in hybrid, distance or self-directed learning paradigms. Students can simply visit the space on their own schedule and complete the assigned activities!

  • Stream or Pond Study - There is always a stream, river, pond or lake nearby which can provide a variety of engaging experiences and lessons. As you know, it’s pretty easy to get a kid to explore a lake or stream! This program can include chemical and biological assessments, environmental science and geology lessons, or opportunities for observation, journaling, and nature writing.  AELC has partnered with some schools in our area to participate in the International Water Institute’s River Watch program and there is a vast number of other partners and resources that can be used to investigate a range of freshwater phenomena. This program also lends itself well to participation by small groups of students in a self-directed learning arrangement.

  • Nature Journaling – Journaling is a wonderful activity because it can be conducted anywhere with any age group, it fits into any lesson, activity or discipline and it develops the critical skills of observation, artistic expression, note taking and creative writing.  We can help you adopt a nature journaling activity by visiting your site, providing journals and exploration kits and introducing you and your students to a variety of journaling activities.
