AELC’s Haunted Trails are usually held the last weekend in October, immediately before Halloween. For 2011, preliminary plans are for Haunted Trails on October 29th. Check back often for more details!

What are the "Haunted Trails"?

During the afternoon, usually from noon to 4 p.m. we have crafts, games and many different activities in and around the Nature Center building for the younger crowd.  The half mile trail loop that starts and ends at the Nature Center is also “haunted” by friendly witches, a fortune teller or two and some of their friends who have treats (and sometimes tricks) for the young visitors.  Admission for the day time trail is free for members and $5 person or $15 per family for non-members.

That's sounds fun. Is there anything for older kids?

Of course! Once darkness falls, the trail loop becomes much more frightening. The trail is dimly lit with tiki torches and you never know who will appear out of the darkness!!  It could be Jason, the grim reaper, a witch or even a ghoul!  A roaring bonfire by the Nature Center building keeps the ghouls at bay and helps to warm visitors on the cold fall night.   Hot cocoa, pop and popcorn are served in the Nature Center building.

Admission for the night trail is $5 per person and with each admission, a person can go twice around the loop.

I want to be apart of this! How can I help?

The trails at the AELC are haunted each year by volunteer actors, so each year we are looking for people willing to help out.  We have been fortunate every year to have a “core” group of wonderful people who help out every year, but we always need more “actors.”  If you would be interested in helping with Haunted Trails, please call (218) 945-3136.
