“What’s News”?
At the AELC?
This summer seems to have flown by so quickly. My sister-in-law came to spend the summer with us, and we are already bringing her home this weekend. It has been a busy summer for all of us here at the AELC and for my family. Our school webmaster has been busy updating and improving our AELC webpage. We now have a calendar for the month of August and will continue to have events posted. To see the changes on our website, check us out at www.aelcfertile.org
Bow hunters have been busy getting out their gear because on August 11th & 12th the AELC is having their Annual Bow Shoot. I’d love to tell you more about it, except, to be honest, I don’t know anything about it other than they’ll be out here at the AELC and I won’t.
I have been busy trying to plan the “AELC Geocache Bash” on August 25th & 26th. This will be our third annual Summerfest at the Agassiz Environmental Learning Center. This I can tell you about: Saturday we’re having a dance on the deck starting at 6 p.m. Sunday starting at noon we’ll have animals (reptiles & raptors), music by Dave Evans, food, and much more. It will be properly advertised, but make sure to mark it down on your calendars right now because you won’t want to miss it!
I’ve also been driving our Safari Tour Van in local parades. The 21st of July we drove to Twin Valley and participated in their parade. The 18th of August we will be in Crookston during Ox-cart days. I enjoy getting to drive the van around and introduce the AELC in our awesome camouflage Safari tour van and the kids enjoy throwing candy at people.
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church group has been busy planning their Vacation Bible School. On Thursday, August 3rd, a large group of kids and their group leaders were out at the AELC following treasure maps around our trails and learning about the Ten Commandments. One group told me they were so excited because they’d gotten “lost”.
Everyone has also been to the Polk County Fair and camps and fishing and swimming and so on… it’s no wonder that the summer has just flashed before our eyes. Personally, I’m ready for school to start. It is fun to meet new teachers, new friends, and have new beginnings. Don’t worry; we’ll always have next summer to be busy again.
For more information about the Agassiz Environmental Learning Center call Jacque in the office at 218-945-3129. You can also reach us at aelc@gvtel.com Thanks. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
