“What’s News"
At the AELC?
The third annual Agassiz Environmental Learning Center Summer Fest took place this past weekend. We had such a busy weekend that I would like to just tell everyone what went on and who our winners were.
On Saturday, we had Music Plus from Bagley on the deck playing music. She played some great music. My husband enjoyed the Johnny Cash songs, I liked the oldies, and the kids liked everything else. She had a fog and bubble machine, and everyone kept trying to pop the bubbles in their mouths, except for me.
Dan Wilkens made a big batch of chili and I had two bowls, along with everyone else. My husband was disappointed because he had eaten two bites from his and then set it out to do something. When he came back, his chili was gone. By that time the chili was all packed up and he didn’t get any more.
LaLa HomeMade Ice Cream was out here on Saturday and Sunday. I had a small bowl each day and found a new favorite flavor. It was so hot on Sunday; it was great to have some ice cream to help cool down.
On Sunday, we had a day full of activities. The Raptor Rehabilitation Program was here with reptiles and raptors. One very lucky family took turns having a tarantula on their head. I have pictures. My niece liked looking at the snake, and one Boy Scout, from Thompson, ND, liked having it wrapped around his neck.
Bruce Flaig had photographs that he showed everyone and at 2:45, he did a formal slide presentation. It was nice and cool in the Nature Center and everyone enjoyed taking a break to watch his show.
Tom Kronschnobel sat in the shade and showed some of his work. He gave an informal woodworking presentation. He whittled his soft wood, which he has to specially order, and answered questions as people came along to watch.
Dave Evans spent the afternoon playing his guitar, accordion, and his fiddle. He sang a few songs, including Johnny Cash, and even offered to let me sing with him. For the greater good of the public, I allowed him all the musical show of the day and I just listened and enjoyed.
The winner of the fishing contest that Jim Flynn and Brandon Tadych conducted throughout the day was Adrienne Kronchnobel with a 5 oz. fish. Our door prize winners were Alex Zerwas, Ann Hanson, Madison Fuglseth, and Ellsworth Sulerud. Congratulations to you all!
I would like to say a few “thank you” before I end this week’s article. To all the board members and my husband, Jim, for their help in making this weekend work, thank you. To Faye and Verdell Olsen for their technical assistance on Saturday night, thank you. To all the businesses who donated gift certificates that we hid in the sand hills for geocaching, thank you! Last, to my grandma and mom for watching JT so I could be out here making sure everything ran smoothly, thank you.
